Abbot Glisam was different from previous Redwall Abbey Abbots who were more inclined to heal and be peaceful. He appeared more warlike and apparently has experience with the bow, being able to fire the weapon and have arrows hit the ground a pawsbreadth from retreating Painted Ones. He assisted in the search for the jewels of the Great Doomwyte Idol by helping to solve riddles and finding one of them in a kitchen tray. After the defeat of Korvus Skurr and all of the Doomwyte jewels had been collected, Glisam had the jewels buried above the hill that was once the lair of the Doomwytes in honor of those who had died in the battle.
Glisam was the first dormouse to become Abbot of Redwall. In later seasons, he was confined to a wheelchair and assisted by Brother Torilis, the herbalist. He appointed Perrit as Mother Abbess, Glisam became the Abbey school teacher.
