Amelia Somers, mostly referred to as Amy, was the daughter of a vet and the sister of Alexander Somers. She had dark brown hair and was referred to as pretty. Amy and her brother made a close relationship with Ben and Ned.

She was around her mid-teens, but the novel does not specify her exact age. Amy attended the local school with her brother, and they often found themselves bullied by the Grange Gang headed by Wilfred Smithers, son of Obadiah and Clarissa Smithers. After the arrival of Ben and Ned, the situation turned around with the dispersal gang.
