Brother Hoben was a old mouse that was the senior Recorder for Redwall Abbey and he was also one of Redwall counselors. He was a stern mouse but occasionally he would smile to other Abbeydwellers. He refilled the lanterns of Great Hall every sixth day. Once he found a flat piece of slat (which contained a part of the riddle of Abbess Songbreeze) from one of lanterns. Hoben helped Mhera and Gundil with the riddle of Abbess Songbreeze.

Sister Rosabel succeded Brother Hoben as recorder after she had written down the story of the Taggerung.
