Mice have been inhabitants of Redwall and Mossflower since the beginning, and are possibly the most numerous. Mice have always been "good" creatures, and while the majority are peaceful, there are more than a few mouse warriors--most notably, Martin the Warrior. Most of Redwall's Abbots and Abbesses have been mice, as was its founder.

Mice were very often the main characters of the books early in the series.

Dormice aren't very common in the Redwall books, but when they do appear, they are usually tribe creatures or hermits.
