The Darkqueen was originally the property of Saltar. It was this ship that took over the Periwinkle. This ship was described as the best in Gabool's fleet. When the ship was spotted by Lord Rawnblade Widestripe he said that if Gabool ever went back to sea it would be on the Darkqueen.
After Saltar's death, Greypatch and a crew of a hundred searats stole the Darkqueen and mutinied from Gabool. Gabool claimed there was a vast amount of treasure on the Darkqueen, and had his fleet scour the sea to find Greypatch and the ship. Greypatch sailed to Mossflower Woods and up the River Moss, but left the boat unguarded. Three hares of the Long Patrol, (Colonel Clary, Brigadier Thyme, and the Honorable Rosemary) then captured it. They crippled the ship by taking off the rudder and the steering wheel and tossing all of the oars into the river with rocks tied to them. What happened to the ship after Greypatch and his comrades were defeated is unknown, but its wood may have gone towards building the Bell Tower at Redwall Abbey.
The Darkqueen is most notable for being completely black, with red sails.
