Dauncey and his twin sister Kersey were gallopers for the Long Patrol under Lady Melesme. Dauncey was killed in an arrow ambush by Gulo the Savage's Horde when he rushed forward in an attempt to appear brave despite Brigadier Buckworthy Crumshaw's warnings to fall back. Kersey would have been hit too, had it not been for Wonwill. The hares carried the body of Dauncey to Redwall Abbey where he was buried.
Kersey eventually married Ferdimond de Mayne and they named their son Dauncey in remembrance of him.
