Elmtail was a young squirrel slave in the kingdom of Malkariss who saved Matthias's life by killing a black robed rat who was sneaking up on the Warrior. He was then freed by Matthias, and later was taken under the wing of Jess and Sam Squirrel. Elmtail formed the Mossflower Patrol with Sam several seasons later.
