Skan was a rebellious male member of the Guerilla Union of Shrews in Mossflower. He led a smaller group of shrews and attempted to overthrow Log-a-Log as the Guosim leader. However, Log-a-Log made him back down, despite being smaller in physical size.
Skan led his shrews away from the Guosim and warned Slagar the Cruel of the Redwall Abbey heroes pursuing him. Instead of rewarding him for this information, Slagar threw Skan and his followers into his slave line. Skan was murdered when several of the Painted Ones lifted him up from the ground, only to have their kill taken from them by Auma, Mattimeo, and Tim Churchmouse.
