Foremole was the kind, cheerful leader of moles in Redwall Abbey. During the siege of Redwall by Greypatch and his crew, Foremole and the moles under him proved a great help, first taking turns in the fire-fighting crews against the fire-slingers thrown by rats and later helping Colonel Clary rescue six slaves from under the noses of the rat's by digging an underground tunnel to the camp and saving them. After the siege was over he and his crew helped in repairing the Abbey. He was good friends with Gabriel Quill, the cellar hog, with whom he sampled many beverages.

Later in The Bellmaker he traveled to Southsward with Rufe Brush, Joseph the Bellmaker, Hon Rosie and Durry Quill to help Mariel and Dandin.

During the time of old Abbot Saxtus, Foremole showed Aubretia and Bultip to their rooms at Redwall.
