Gael Squirrelking ruled Southsward from Castle Floret, until he was tricked into letting the Urgan Nagru and his mate Silvamord with their evil vermin horde in. He and his family were then taken prisoner. His family escaped with the help of Rab Streambattle, his mate Iris Streambattle, and their otter crew. He later escaped along with Mariel Gullwhacker, Meldrum, Dandin, and Glokkpod the shrike. His wife was Squirrelqueen Serena, and his son was Truffen.

After the Battle of Southsward, he adopted the three orphans Wincey, Figgs, and Benjy.
