In the world of Redwall, a holt is a name for a tribe of otters, who generally live near the sea or ocean, but will often live near rivers or streams.

HoltsEdit

There have been several otter holts mentioned in the Redwall series, among which are the following:

• Camp Willow: Located on the River Moss; order there is maintained by the Skipper, Warthorn. Found in Mossflower.

• Garraway Bullow's Holt: Located on the River Moss. It is basically a hole on either bank that goes into a hollow log leading to the opposite hole. Found in Legend of Luke.

• Tungro's Holt: Located at the intersection between Northfork Stream and River Moss. Found in Legend of Luke.

• Holt Lutra: Located on the northwestern shore of Mossflower country. Ruled by the chieftain Lutra, the father of Grath Longfletch. The holt was destroyed and its inhabitants, except for Grath herself, were murdered by the corsair Conva and his crew to steal their most treasured possession, the Tears of all Oceans. Found in Pearls of Lutra.

• Holt Rudderwake: Located on the isle of Ruddaring in the northwestern sea. Ruled by Wallyum Rudderwake, the father of Inbar Trueflight. It is a hollow mountain rising out of the water. In ancient times, Ruddaring was settled by four otter families who escaped from corsairs and fought off the native Monitors. Found in Pearls of Lutra.

• Brogalaw's Holt: Unnamed holt ruled by the sea otter Brogalaw, located on the western shore near Salamandastron. Acted as an ally of the mountain in the war against Ungatt Trunn. Found in Lord Brocktree.

• Shoredog's Holt: Unnamed holt on the eastern coast. Often attacked by the Coast Raiders of Raga Bol. Found in Loamhedge.

• Holt Summerdell: Summer home of the otter clans of Green Isle before the arrival of wildcats. After Tiria Wildlough's defeat of Riggu Felis, the clans relocated there. Found in High Rhulain.

• Holt Mossguard: Ruled by Alem Mossguard and located in Mossflower Woods. Found in High Rhulain.

• Southsward Holt of Otters: Ruled by Rab Streambattle and located in Southsward. Found in The Bellmaker.

• Boulderdog Holt: Ruled by Barbowla Boulderdog and located near a waterfall in Mossflower Woods. Residents consist entirely of Barbowla's offspring. Found in Eulalia!.
