Hortwill Longblade Braebuck, also known as Horty, was a young and headstrong "teenaged" hare, the brother of Martha, a haremaid confined to a wheelchair. He arrived at Redwall from the Northlands along with his mother, who died of exhaustion, and his sister Martha. Accompanied by Springald and Fenna, Horty left Redwall Abbey secretly to accompany Bragoon and Sarobando to find the cure for Martha's illness, which was allegedly at Loamhedge. He suffered many injuries along the way. Horty, like most hares, loved food and throughout the long trek constantly complained about the rationing. Also like many hares, he is a good runner and shows this by out running a group of vermin. Upon encountering the dormouse named Toobledum, he discovered he was a fine cook.

Horty later traveled to Salamandastron with Lonna Bowstripe, where he became a respected captain in the Long Patrol, mostly by young hares under him. Later, he returned to Redwall to visit Martha.

He is not to be confused with Horty.
