Sergeant Mugworth and Algy Buttons[]

Sergeant Mugworth and Algy Buttons is a 27-page short story by Brian Jacques about a young girl's two teddy bears who protect a neighborhood from an escaped snake. It features three illustrations by Paul Hess.

In the English Teasdale Avenue neighborhood, a South American devilsnake has escaped captivity and started terrorizing the residents.

Sergeant Mugworth, a grizzled veteran teddy bear, and Algy Buttons, a newer teddy bear, observed the snake and commenced the defense of their home from it. After a few ferocious physical battles, Algy tricks the devilsnake into following him into the house's refrigerator, which causes the snake to freeze to death.
