Madame Gilbert (later Madame Frane) was a widowed pancake baker who had a stall at the Véron fair. Karayna Bregon read her fortune in exchange for pancakes. Later, she paid the toll upon their return to the fair.
Madame Gilbert complied with Karayna's fortune, marrying Monsieur Frane and adopting his daughter, Jeanette. She also ended up selling her pancake business.
