The Northern Mountains were cold and desolate, and were home to all sorts of birds, ranging from Golden Eagles, great red kites, falcons, and large owls. Mountain hares, like Bucko Bigbones, lived there too. Many vermin came from the Northern Mountains as well, including the wildcats Verdauga Greeneyes and Ungatt Trunn. The Northern Mountains were also the only place where the Flowers of Icetor could be found.
