The Northlands were hard, bitter lands to the north of Mossflower Woods, mostly home to vermin bands and armies, as well as birds and hares. The far North was a war-torn region. Corsair attacks were frequent, and on the Northeastern Coast was the formidable vermin fortress, Fort Marshank. Beyond the Great Northern Sea was Riftgard and the Land of Ice and Snow.

The Northlands were the place of origin of Martin the Warrior and he described them as a region of mostly rocks, grass and hills.
