Plumpen was the leader of a tribe of dormice. They were captured by Cluny the Scourge while he was attacking Redwall Abbey and he was forced to make a decision: either open one of the wallgates or Cluny would kill his family. He chose the former, however once he let Cluny's horde in he was knocked senseless by Fangburn.

He later went on to live at the liberated Redwall Abbey.
