Reynard Chopsnout was a corsair fox, and the captain of the Greenhawk. He got his name when he lost his nose to a sword fight against a ferret and replaced it with a wad of pitch. Chopsnout and his crew launched an attack against Luke the Warrior and his tribe, but Reynard's forces were quickly routed, and the fight ended when Luke killed the fox corsair on the ground with his soon-to-be famous battlesword. Reynard Chopsnout used a cutlass, mainly, but he was said to have used a scimitar in the fight against Luke's tribe. This is the inverse of Raventail.

It is believed that "Reynard Chopsnout" is derived from "Reynard the Fox", a trickster fox from medieval European folklore.
