Samolus Fixa was a descendant of Gonff the Mousethief, descendant of Dandin, cousin of Abbess Bryony and the granduncle of Bisky, who used to call him "grandunk". He was the recorder of Redwall Abbey, as well as an old friend of Abbot Glisam. Samolus joined in fights and raced the young ones, often beating them.

It was Samolus who discovered Columbine's diary and the writings of Young Dinny; these contained the story how Gonff stole the eyes of the Great Doomwyte Idol.

Samolus earned the title "Fixa" for his ability to repair almost anything.
