Serafina was a singer in the Travelling Rizzoli Troupe. She quickly befriended Ben and Ned, particularly Ben with whom she became very close. Serafina was killed when she fell from the balcony of the Santa Filomena Convent, and drowned. She was buried in the grounds of Santa Filomena Convent, under an almond tree.

Serafina was known to be very brave and loyal, especially to Ben, and a native African, like La Lindi. She was described as "in her midteens", "a strikingly beautiful girl, tall, slim, and gracious, with large almond-shaped eyes which radiated tranquility".
