Skan was a rebellious member of the Guosim. He led a smaller group of shrews and attemped to overthrow Log-a-Log. However, Log-a-Log made him back down despite being smaller in physical size. Skan led his shrews away from the Guosim and warned Slagar the Cruel of the Redwall Abbey heroes chasing him.

Instead of rewarding him, Slagar threw Skan and his shrews in his slave line. Skan was killed when several of the Painted Ones lifted him up from the ground and killed him, only to have their kill taken from them by Auma, Mattimeo and Tim Churchmouse; however, in the TV series, it shows that Skan is eaten by Painted Ones.
