Tala was the wife of Chigid, chieftain of the Painted Ones, and the mother of Jeg who she spoiled beyond belief. Her tribe ambushed Redwallers, Guosim, and Gonfelins, and during this her mate was slain by Tugga Bruster; Tala swore her revenge. After the Painted Ones were subdued, they were banishished from Mossflower forever. Tala succeeded in killing Bruster by stabbing him in the chest with a sharp wooden stick after he was banished from the Guosim. After slaying the shrew, she disappeared.
