Tarquin Longleap Woodsorrel, also nicknamed Tarkers or Tark, was the son of Lorquin Woodsorrel, husband of Honorable Rosemary and the father of 12 leverets, who formed the Fur and Foot Fighting Patrol. Tarquin was an expert fighter, as well as a talented hare musician and loyal friend.

He was a member of the Long Patrol Westshore Woodsorrel clan, and a descendant of Bracken Woodsorrel. Through this family, he was related to Meldrum Fallowthorn the Magnificent.

Personality[]

Tarquin was known to be facetious, very talkative, almost always in good spirits and a bit whimsical. Although his ballads and his sense of humor were not always of the highest caliber, his fun-loving attitude, his honesty and his loyalty made him a beloved companion of all residents of Redwall Abbey. His remarkable talents as a fighter made him a wonderful ally during combat. Doted with an extraordinary appetite, even for a hare, he could astonish everyone with his ability to make great quantities of food disappear.

Tarquin was a hopeless romantic and composed a great quantity of syrupy love songs for Hon Rosie of the Long Patrol. He could sing about her all day and night, sometimes to the dismay of his friends, and had the foolish habit of referring to Rosie at the smallest, and most irrelevant, occasion. For a while, it was unclear whether Rosie felt the same way for Tarquin, but the matter was eventually settled when she married him. Their fun-loving and optimistic attitude made Tarkers and Rosie into the perfect couple.

Biography[]

Lord Rawnblade Widestripe sent Tarquin to Redwall Abbey, where he had visited long before with his father, Lorquin, in the hope this would strengthen the ties between Redwall and Salamandastron. On his way to the Abbey, Tarquin encountered Mariel Gullwhacker, who had just been rescued by the Long Patrol, and guided her to the safety of Redwall. He would quickly join her, Dandin, and Durry Quill on their journey to the isle of Terramort to defeat Gabool the Wild. Tarquin proved an invaluable companion, and kept the travelers entertained with his harolina and love songs composed for Hon Rosie. After the triumph against Gabool, Tarquin and Rosie wed and had offspring.
