Toobledum was a large fat dormouse who lived in a rickety little hut among the remnants of Loamhedge Abbey. He wore a wide-brimmed hat and kept a little sand lizard named Bubbub as a pet. Toobledum was the youngest of his sixteen siblings and he liked food a lot. He pulled his cart around the wastelands, seeking useful things such as firewood.

Toobledum later met with five travelers from Redwall Abbey who were seeking the Loamhedge cemetery. He showed them the way, but refused to actually enter the burial grounds because they frightened him. He also ate a lot of the travelers' food along the way, claiming that he didn't have much at home.

Before they left to return to Redwall, Bragoon and Sarobando discovered that Toobledum actually had quite a bit of food stored in secret. Their younger companions disapproved of the dormouse's actions; however, Bragoon defended Toobledum, explaining to the young ones how the drive to survive affects beasts living in harsher conditions.
