Urtica was a younger male hedgehog living on Peace Island. He was the son of Bistort and Downyrose. He and his father were gathering kelp off the island when he found a small ketch adrift; Shogg, Triss and Welfo were aboard, semi-conscious and starving. Bistort and Urtica brought the little craft to the island and treated them. While caring for the three, Urtica fell in love with Welfo, who stayed at the island with him.
