Whipscale was a male newt who was friends with Deathcoil. He was also great enemies with Log-a-Log Big Club, because the newt along with his snake friend, would terrorize passing travelers.

After a particularly hard defeat, Whipscale and Deathcoil were sucked under a mountain river, through Bat Mountpit and into the Toadlands. He then helped in the capture of Log-a-Log and his companions Martin the Warrior, Young Dinny, and Gonff and threw them into the Screamhole. After that he is not mentioned, although he may have been eaten by Snakefish.
